Our guides to the city we actually live in. Match days at both grounds, arena weekends, the Christmas markets that are worth queuing for, hen and stag done properly, and the neighbourhoods worth staying in.
What's on, where to eat before, where to end up after. Written by people who live in these postcodes, not a welcome pack that lists Manchester Cathedral first.
City home fixtures, United weekends, walkable stays, tram tips, the pubs that open early on match day, and where to eat post-match without a two-hour wait.

What each part of the year actually looks like on the ground, so you can pick your trip well.
Football season peaks. Manchester Marathon in April. Longer evenings, patchy weather, but the parks start looking properly good. Rates start to climb as the year opens up.
Concert season at Co-op Live and AO Arena. Manchester Pride in August. Warmer evenings, outdoor terraces open, cricket at Old Trafford. Corporate travel dips slightly, weekend leisure travel peaks.
Football back in full swing. Universities return, city gets busier. October and early November are the sweet spot: cooler evenings, no Christmas market crowds yet, best weekend availability of the year.
Christmas Markets from mid-November through early January. Book well ahead for December weekends. January and February are the calm months, best value on longer stays and corporate contracts.
